Quick guide to Merb dependency resolution

Playing with Merb again on an old box with a positively geriatric install of Ruby, I discovered after some pain that github needs Ruby gems to be at least version 1.2. I subsequently discovered that Ruby also needs to be at 1.8.6 or higher (/cry) – there’s no clean upgrade path for Ruby yet for Windows which means a fresh install.

Add github as a source if you don’t already have it (you can check quickly with “gem sources”)

gem sources –add http://gems.github.com

You will probably have issues with previously installed versions of addressable in which case you’ll need to get the latest version:

gem install addressable

Then all you (probably) have to do is install Merb – there may be issues though which I didn’t experience.

gem install –remote merb
